AbstractSince the adoption of open policy and economic reform in 1978, there has been very rapid urban development in China. Four special economic zones and fourteen coastal open cities were established to attract foreign investment. Large cities are revitalizing their importance in the country with flourishing small towns. There are many new developments in Chinese cities after the housing and land reforms in the mid-1980s. With information and data more readily available, and the research environment more favourable, many interesting studies on urban development and planning in China have been generated. This is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary bibliography of English publications on urbanization, regional development, industry and economy, rural urbanization and industrialization, foreign investment, population, urban planning and design, urban development and redevelopment, land and land use, community development, transportation, environment, satellite towns, special economic zones, urban history, urban redevelopment. It is an indispensable tool to researchers and other people who are interested in socio-economic development and urban development in China for locating major English reference materials and identifying research topics.
