Biography

Yulin SHAO is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees (Hons.) in Communications and Information Engineering from Xidian University, China, in 2013 and 2016, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2020. He has held various research and academic positions, including Research Assistant at the Institute of Network Coding, Visiting Scholar at the Research Laboratory of Electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Research Associate at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London (ICL), Lecturer in Information Processing at the University of Exeter, and Assistant Professor at the University of Macau. He has also served as a Guest Lecturer for the 5G Academy Italy and the IEEE Information Theory Society Bangalore Chapter. Dr. Shao’s research interests include coding and modulation, machine learning for communications, and stochastic control. He serves as a Series Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine in the area of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science for Communications, an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications in the area of Machine Learning and Communications, and an Editor for IEEE Communications Letters. His research has been recognised with several awards, including Best Paper Awards at the IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) 2023 and the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) 2024.
