Dr. Chun Kit Chui currently holds the position of Director at the Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Alongside this role, he serves as the Assistant Dean of Engineering for undergraduate teaching and learning. Additionally, Dr. Chui is a Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering at HKU.
At the core of Dr. Chui's teaching philosophy is the empowerment of students to "Dream Big, Start Small, and Learn Fast!" His approach involves introducing pedagogical innovations as a Computer Science educator, emphasizing hands-on and self-directed learning in technology to facilitate rapid learning. As the Director of the HKU Innovation Wing project, he has overseen its design, construction, and operation, aiming to enable students to realize their innovative concepts through hands-on prototyping. Dr. Chui is actively engaged with students and educators from various disciplines at HKU, fostering a culture of student-initiated interest groups that promote cross-disciplinary learning, enabling students to pursue their aspirations in computing and engineering technology innovation alongside their peers.
With over 13 years of teaching experience (2011-2024) as a lecturer / senior lecturer in the Computer Science department, Dr. Chui's research / educational interests include database and data mining, as well as pedagogical research in computing education. He has received recognition for his contribution to tertiary education, including the University Outstanding Teaching Award (Individual Award) at the University of Hong Kong for the 2015-16 academic year and the Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award (Individual Award) in the Faculty of Engineering for the 2023-24 and 2012-13 academic years. Recognized for his teaching excellence, Dr. Chui has been honoured with the Teaching Excellence Award in the Department of Computer Science for the academic years 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2015-16. Moreover, he was a finalist for the UGC Teaching Award (Early Career Faculty Member).
