Professor Kajimoto, Masato 鍛治本正人
Dr. Masato Kajimoto specialises in news literacy education, fact-checking practice, misinformation ecosystem research, and press freedom in Asia.
In 2019, he founded Annie Lab, a pioneering student-led media platform providing experiential learning, internships, and Capstone experiences for students.
The International Fact-Checking Network at the Poynter Institute accredited Annie Lab as a Verified Signatory of the Code of Principles in January 2022, recognising the standard it adheres to in fact-checking journalism.
By invitation, Annie Lab also joined the World Health Organization’s Vaccine Safety Network in November 2023. WHO says Annie Lab’s “strong focus on public health” and its “commitment to fact-checking” are the reasons for their invitation in the assessment.
His academic publications include an entry on "News Literacy" in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Communication and a highly cited article, "Information Disorder in Asia and the Pacific: Overview of Misinformation Ecosystem in Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam".
