Dr Danny Gittings has written extensively on separation of powers and graduated in July 2022 from the Faculty of Law with a PhD thesis presenting a rationale-based approach towards separation of powers which is expected to form the basis of his next book.
His thesis was praised by the examiners as an “outstanding thesis”, “carefully, superbly reasoned in a manner reflecting considerable originality of thought and judgment”, and “very well researched and well written”. It is cited in Cora Chan, Weight and Balance: Understanding Daly's Framework of Common Law Administrative Law (adminlawblogorg, 4 April 2022).
Dr Gittings' textbook, Introduction to the Hong Kong Basic Law (Hong Kong University Press) is widely used on Hong Kong Constitutional Law courses and has been favourably reviewed in The China Quarterly and Hong Kong Law Journal.
