Danny Gittings 賈廷思
Danny Gittings is author of the widely-used textbook Introduction to the Hong Kong Basic Law (Hong Kong University Press, 2nd edition, 2016). His primary research focus is Separation of Powers under the Hong Kong Basic Law. A former journalist, Danny Gittings is a regular radio talk-show on RTHK's popular Backchat programme, where he has interviewed many prominent Hong Kong personalities including three successive Hong Kong Chief Executives.

Danny Gittings is researching Separation of Powers under the Hong Kong Basic Law at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law under the supervision of Associate Dean (Research) Professor Simon Young and Professor Richard Cullen.
He is an Associate Professor and Principal Programme Director at HKU SPACE, as well as Associate Head of the College of Humanities and Law. He is the only person to have received all three of the following awards: Distinguished Alumni Fellowship (2009), Outstanding Teacher Award (2006) and Outstanding Lifelong Learner Award (2001).
His textbook, Introduction to the Hong Kong Basic Law, now in its second edition, is required reading on most Hong Kong Constitutional Law courses and has been favourably reviewed in The China Quarterly, Hong Kong Law Journal, Hong Kong Lawyer, South China Morning Post and Ming Pao among other publications.
Before joining the academic world, Mr Gittings worked in senior editorial positions at the South China Morning Post and The Wall Street Journal Asia for 15 years, where he won several journalistic awards and reported on Hong Kong’s political and constitutional development. He is a regular host of RTHK's popular Backchat radio talk-show programme, and is one of very few people to have interviewed every Hong Kong leader from Lord Wilson (who was Governor from 1987-1992) through to Carrie Lam.
Mr Gittings has lived in Hong Kong for more than 30 years and is married with two children, who are being educated through the local school system.
