Dr. May Chui grew up in Hong Kong and she obtained her bachelor degree at Lafayette College in the U.S. She completed her M.S. and Ph.D. study in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology Program at Stanford University. She then joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National University of Singapore as an assistant professor, and finally moved back to Hong Kong. Her primary research interest lies in modeling coupled surface and ground water systems for sustainable water resources management. She is in the field of ecohydrology, researching the interactions between hydrology and vegetation particularly in wetlands. Some of her other current projects include the hydrologic impacts of low impact development and the feasibility of creating eco-friendly flow regimes in urbanized drains.
