Objectives
1 To experimentally probe the optical properties of heterostructures of two-dimensional atomic semiconductors including monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides and monochalcogenides. The heterostructures could be hetero- or homo-bilayers. The moiré pattern induced band modification will be studied with semiconductor optics techniques. 2 To explore the optical phenomena associated with moiré superlattices. The flexibility of moiré superlattice with large lattice size offers a good possibility for many-body phenomena in 2D. With weak Coulomb screening, strong spatial confinement and extra degrees of freedom make twisted bilayers an interesting platform to explore many-body effects in 2D system. 3 To enforce the local research strength in experimental solid state physics, particularly in 2D semiconductor research which is one of the intriguing topics both in fundamental sciences and in application-oriented research.
