Objectives
We recently demonstrated that genotype 4 hepatitis E virus (HEV-4) and rat HEV (HEV-C) infect immunocompromised individuals in Hong Kong. The primary objective of this project is to evaluate HEV-4 and HEV-C infection prevalence in Hong Kong residents. Secondary objectives are to understand clinical characteristics of infection due to these HEV variants, evaluate prevalence of HEV-C among local rats, and understand routes of rat-to-human HEV-C transmission.
