Objectives
1 Develop a contextualized understanding of political radicalization among young protesters in Hong Kong using qualitative data; 2 Experimentally examine the proposed predictors of identification with a radical political movement; specifically, whether mistrust in political institutions predicts identification with a radical political movement; 3 Longitudinally examine the dynamic relationship between changes in identification with a radical political movement and changes in normativeness of collective action (both actual participation and intention to participate). Specifically, whether changes in identification with a radical political movement is associated with changes in intention to participate and actual participation in nonnormative collective action, and vice versa; and 4 Longitudinally examine the relationship between changes in perceived threat and mistrust in political institutions and changes in normativeness of collective action (both actual participation and intention to participate), and test whether changes in radical political identification is a mediator.
