Objectives
1 To substantiate our theoretical investigations, we plan to provide detailed accounts of anecdotes, on which our model can be used to shed new lights. 2 We plan to build a regime change model, in which an endogenous leadership is explicitly characterised. We need to go beyond the binary choice model and allow citizens to choose to be leaders. We aim to provide a more general methodology that deals with models of similar types. 3 We plan to study how the endogenous leadership responds to the strategy of the status quo, for example under what situations reform proposals are radicalised or moderated by government’s concessions or confrontations. To address this question, we need to enrich our baseline model and accommodate a richer set-up to allow for the government’s response. The literature has offered some insights about the impact of punishment structures chosen by the status quo on individuals’ effort to participate at the intensive margin. This project investigates how a government’s various responses impact the leadership group at the extensive margin.
