1 To propose an alternative (state-dependent) approach to analyze the effects of mortality decline on life-cycle variables such as retirement age and schooling years. 2 To apply the proposed method to study how retirement age responds to wealth level and health shock. 3 To investigate which version(s) of the state-dependent model is (are) more accurate in describing actual human survival experiences of developed economies, and is (are) more useful in achieving objectives 1 and 2.
