Objectives
1 To develop new metal-catalyzed (M = Fe, Ru, Ir) nitrene transfer/insertion reactions using alkylazides, acylazides, activated hydroxyamines as nitrogen source. 2 To explore the visible light-induced C–N bond formation reactions catalyzed by metalloporphyrins or other metal complexes having vacant axial coordination site and with long-lived excited states. 3 To synthesize, characterize and study the reactivity of reactive metal-imido/nitrene complexes [M(L)(NR)] or [M(L)(NR)2] (M = Fe, Ru, Ir; L = bulky supporting ligand) by kinetic experiments, spectroscopic and computational methods. 4 To examine the effect of C-donor ligand and the oxidation state of the transition metal catalysts on various key steps in metal-catalyzed nitrene transfer reactions with organic azides via experimental and/or computational studies.
