Objectives
1 To address whether there exist humoral factors in UCP1-null mice mediating UCP1-independent energy utilization by using parabiosis and co-culture approaches; 2 To characterize the BAT-derived secretory factor(s) that promote remodeling and compensatory energy expenditure in scWAT; 3 To elucidate the molecular mechanisms whereby UCP1 deletion alters production of thermogenic factors in classical BAT; 4 To investigate how altered secretory factors from UCP1-deficient BAT increase mitochondrial number and promote UCP1-independent thermogenic pathways in scWAT.
