Objectives
1. Develop a brief, culturally and contextually relevant direct assessment instrument, that measures the holistic development and school readiness of children aged 3-5 years in four countries (Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar) in one of the One Belt One Road (OBOR) Economic Corridors, as required by Sustainable Development Goal Target 4.2. 2. Develop a parent-report measure to collect information regarding children’s development and their home-learning environments for the four countries. 3. Conduct an in-depth review of the ECE systems in each of the four countries in order to explore commonalities and distinctions in the policies and legislative contexts that promote equitable access to ECE and the financing and sustainability of the ECE system in the four target countries. 4. Conduct an in-depth review of the ECE systems in the four countries in order to understand and compare their approaches regarding: ECE curriculum; preservice and in-service teacher training; provision of educational resources; defining and monitoring standards for facilities; quality assurance and enhancement mechanisms; and working with parents and the wider community. Findings from these reviews will be consolidated into country case studies, identifying noteworthy policies and practices that are scalable in OBOR countries.
