Objectives
1 Develop new classes of trianionic and dianionic tetradentate ligands having C-donor atoms for the synthesis of charge-neutral luminescent metal complexes. 2 Use of two bidentate C-donor ligands or one tetradentate ligand for the synthesis of charge-neutral luminescent gold(III) complexes having tunable emission energy. 3 Design of new tetradentate ligands having rigid scaffold and use them to develop blue phosphorescent palladium(II) and platinum(II) complexes. 4 Design and synthesis of air-stable, strongly luminescent tungsten complexes and examine their applications in OLED and photo-catalysis. 5 Develop light-induced photo-redox catalysis and C-X bond functionalization reactions with the newly developed luminescent metal complexes. 6 Examine the various factors governing the excited state dynamics of luminescent palladium(II), gold(III) and tungsten(VI) complexes by using DFT calculations and fs-ns time-resolved spectroscopy.
