Objectives
1. To study and analyze traditional indigenous medicine as practiced in the Canton/Hong Kong region in the modern period, by looking at local specialties and therapeutics 2. To evaluate the respective roles of traditional indigenous and nineteenth-century Western medicine in the constitution of Cantonese medical culture 3. To study and analyze the structure and functions of indigenous medical institutions such as charitable halls and yiyuan hospitals, and their relevance to the growth of a local medical culture
