Abstract | A conceptual model is an interactive visual representation designed to depict a concept or a number of connected concepts, and allow manipulation of concept’s properties and/or relationships between concepts. It is assumed that the analysis of the information from the conceptual model, manipulation and interrogation of represented properties and relationships and effect of visuals will enable students to generalize and construct mental representation. In this paper the author discuses one conceptual model and its design, and applications in learning within a context of outdoor educational trip. Also, the paper describes an ongoing effort to explore learning effect of the use of the conceptual model with students. Overall, the paper at this stage aims to provide some useful information for designers of conceptual models and other learning objects and for further research involving learning with visual and interactive representations.
