AbstractBACKGROUND: Squamous cell carcinoma of the thoracic esophagus (ESCC) is often diagnosed in advanced stage. Pre-operative chemoradiation is employed to downstage the disease before operation. Pathological complete response (pCR) was observed in around 20–40% of patients and was associated with improved survival.
