AbstractThe random occurrence of unexpected disruptive events (such as natural or manmade hazards) causes significant interruption to the normal functionality of engineered systems. Modeling system performance during and after the random disruptive events has initiated the necessity to extend the traditional reliability metrics to resilience. In this study, we investigate the system performance metrics such as availability and recovery time under random multi hazard and recovery process. We then adopt availability as effective performance indicator and propose a piecewise model to quantify system resilience under multi hazard. The property of system resilience is thoroughly investigated with respect to system reliability metrics. Extensive simulation studies and a numerical example are provided to validate the effectiveness and scalability of the proposed models.
