Abstract | In the opening presentation, “We Are What We Write: The Role of Writing in the Academy,” Professor Ken Hyland of Hong Kong University explained the ways in which writing has come to be understood as a peripheral skill, not an integral component, of disciplines within the academy. Building upon the assumption that we are what we write, Professor Hyland explored the greater academic and cultural implications associated with the marginalization of writing.
