AbstractEmotional content affects early processing of words (Kissler et al., 2007). This study aimed to disentangle the effects of valence and arousal by manipulating both of them in a lexical decision task. 28 English native speakers were presented with 150 words manipulated for both dimensions. Reaction times and ERP responses were recorded. Both effect of valence and arousal were found, as well as an interaction between these two dimensions, suggesting a complex relationship between them.
