Biography

Dr. Desmond Yat-Hin YAP joined the Department of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital in 2004 and was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Medicine, the University of Hong Kong since 2012. His research interests include the immunopathogenesis and the use of immunosuppressive treatments in glomerular diseases as well as infective complications in renal failure patients. He received the Young Investigator Award by the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology in 2009 for his work on lupus nephritis. He was also awarded the Li Shu Pui Clinical Fellowship (2014-2015) and worked as a visiting clinician-scientist at the Fiebiger-Nikolaus Centre, Friedrich-Alexander University, Germany. He was nominated as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2014 and 2015 respectively. He is currently a council member of the Hong Kong Society for Nephrology (HKSN) and also the Honorary Secretary for the Asian Lupus Nephritis Network (ALNN) and the Hong Kong Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (HKSHI). He has published over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and one book chapter on exit site infection in peritoneal dialysis patients. He is a regular reviewer for several internationally renowned journals and served as Associate Editors for some of these journals.
