Dr Law, Winnie Wai Yi 羅惠儀
Over the past decade as a student, researcher, teacher and member in the fields of planning, environmental education and sustainable development, I see the imminent need for pursuing sustainability in our everyday lives. I am particularly interested in research and practical application of social sustainability, community engagement and concepts of green living.
I am keen to integrate sustainability theories into practice. I have acted as project manager and/or expert consultant for over 15 major planning and infrastructure projects as well as environmental education programmes locally and internationally in the themes of sustainability, impact assessment and education for environmental conservation. Some key working partners include: European Commission, UNDP, British Consulate (HK), HSBC, Highways Department, Civil and Engineering Development Department, Sustainable Development Division, Education Bureau, Environmental Protection Department, Shatin District Council, Kwun Tong District Council, Southern District Council, Tuen Mun District Council, British Consulate in Hong Kong, Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Ltd, Maunsell Consultants Asia Ltd, Meinhardt China Ltd, Green Power Hong Kong and The Conservancy Association.
I am currently the Assistant Director and a Principal Lecturer at the Kadoorie Institute of The University of Hong Kong. I teach in the M.Sc. Environmental Management Programme and I lead a team of project officers and researchers in conducting applied research and consultancy projects, community outreach programmes and training in relation to sustainability and environmental conservation. I also give guest lectures on related subjects at other local universities as well as universities in Vietnam.
Since 2005 I have served on the Board of Directors of the Conservancy Association – the longest established local green group in Hong Kong. I was also appointed by the HKSAR Government to be a member of the Environmental Campaign Committee from 1st January 2013 to 31st December 2014. At the regional level, I was commissioned by the EU and UNDP as an planning and social monitoring expert for their programmes in Vietnam. I also review books for Urban Policy and Research Journal (Taylor & Francis Inc) and review papers for Journal of Urban Planning International (China) on a regular basis.
