AbstractThe syntheses and electroluminescence properties of three types of organic conjugated polymers, incorporated with different types of ruthenium polypyridine metal complexes as either a main or side chain, are reported. The main chain of the polymers were based on heterocyclic polybenzobisoxazole, polybenzobisthiazole and polyphenylene vinylene derivatives. Some of the polymers exhibited distinct emission bands which originated from the conjugate main chain and the ruthenium complex. In other systems, the emission from the main chain was quenched. The polymers exhibited modest hole and electron carrier mobilities comparable to common organic conjugated polymers.
