AbstractThough seldom referred to in contemporary historical, official or academic documents, the Hong Kong Preliminary Planning Report 1948 written by Sir Patrick Abercrombie is found to have exerted considerable influence on the urban forms and planning issues of Colonial Hong Kong. Many of its physical planning proposals, such as the construction of a harbour tunnel and new towns in the New Territories, the relocation of the railway terminus and the new airport have been implemented. It also contains many original concepts that are still accepted by planners today.
