AbstractPigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) of the ankle is an uncommon disorder. We report a case of recurrent ankle PVNS, and correlate the pre-operative MRI with intra-operative findings. We found that the MRI accurately delineated the extent of soft tissue involvement of the ankle joint by PVNS. However it overestimated the degree of articular cartilage and bone involvement. We therefore caution the use of MRI in pre-operative planning.
