Abstract | Owing to the nature of salient poles in both the stator and rotor, doubly salient permanent magnet (DSPM) motors suffer from severe torque ripples. In this paper, a new operation mode is proposed and analyzed, namely the use of two-phase operation to minimize the torque ripple of a four-phase DSPM motor. Both theoretical analysis and computer simulation are given to illustrate the proposed two-phase operation. Finally, experimental results are provided for verification. |
