Abstract | A domain integral equation method is presented for the analysis of the interaction between coated inclusions of arbitrarily shapes and cracks. Quadratic triangular and quadrilateral elements are employed to discretize the coated inclusion domains. Boundary integral equation method is used to investigate the interaction of coated inclusions and internal cracks. The interface between the coating and the matrix and that of the inclusion and the coating are meshed into quadratic boundary elements. For both methods, the cracks are discretized into quadratic discontinuous boundary elements. Special crack tip elements are employed to model the √r variation of displacements near the crack tips. Stress intensity factors are evaluated using the well-known one point formulation. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. |
