Abstract | A cationic gold(III) porphyrin, [AuIII(TM-PyP)]Cl5 (1 a), is a potent HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitor in vitro with an IC 50 value = 0.31 μM. Effective inhibition (67%) can be produced by the "1 a + AZT-TP" protocol at nanomolar level. The gold(III) complex exhibits remarkable stability in physiological buffer without significant cytotoxicity to normal T cells. |
