AbstractThe building blocks Pt(dpp)X2 (where dpp = 2,3-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine, X = CI, Ph, C=CPh and CN) have been synthesized and the X-ray structures of the first three are described. All of the building blocks display luminescence in the solid state while Pt(dpp)(CHCPh)2 and Pt(dpp)(CN)2 are also emissive in solution at room temperature. The heterometallic supramolecular complexes [Ph2Pt(dpp)Ru(5,5'-Me2bpy)2](CIO4)2 (where 5,5'-Me2bpy = 5,5'dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine), (PhC=C)2Pt(dpp)Re(CO)3CI, and Ph2Pt(dpp)PtCI2 have been prepared and their emissive properties studied. The Ru-dpp-Pt system exhibits MLCT emission at A 710 nm with a lifetime of 0.33 /ts in acetonitrile solution under ambient conditions. The Re-dpp-Pt system is emissive at 605 nm in dichloromethane with a lifetime of 0.24 us. '© CNRS-Gaulhier-Villars.
