AbstractSpirulina platensis were batch cultivated in Zarrouk synthetic medium in a 60l flat tank photobioreactor with constant illumination of 30klx fluorescent light and different mixing systems.During cultivatio7n a decline of dissolved oxygen was observed from 6.7mg/l to 5.4mg/l for water_recycle with airlift system (WRAS) and from 8.6mg/l to 2.0mg/l for airlift system (AS),respectively. The maximal concentration of S.platensis biomass of 1.85g/l was obtained with AS at the 7th day.Morphological variation including breakage and sinking of filaments during cultivation was not observed significantly only with AS.These results show that the AS was more efficient and successfully used for the cultivation of S.platensis in the flat tank photobioreactor, compared with the water_recycle system (WRS) and the WRAS。
