Web-based resources containing images, tables, texts and associated data on the construction of West Kowloon Expressway.
In October 1989 the Hong Kong Government announced the decision to build a new airport at Chek Lap Kok on the northern shore of Lantau Island. The decision was subsequently sanctioned by the Sino-British Governments, to provide access to the new airport which was scheduled to be substantially completed by mid 1997. A series of roadworks including the West Kowloon Expressway had to be completed in time with the opening of the new airport. The expressway was finally opened to traffic in February 1997.
