DescriptionThe HKU Libraries has just launched a Wi-Fi enabled Palm handheld solution, which is build on the existing HKU's wireless LAN, for accessing library resources and services. Dr. Ferguson will describe this innovative project and talk about the possible implications for education in Hong Kong following the model for the HKU library.
Dr Anthony Ferguson is University Librarian and Interim Director of IT in Learning. He has been here since May of 2001. HKU's library has more than 2 million volumes and is staffed by 40 professionals and 200 support staff. He was formerly the Associate University Librarian at Columbia University in the City of New York. When he was at BYU he regularly taught in Asian Studies department and since coming here he has taught a course on Information Policy for CITE. He has a doctorate in Education from Columbia Teachers College in International and Transcultural education. His dissertation was entitled The Library and Information Needs of Chinese Undergraduate Radio & Television University Distance Education Students.
