Abstract | Climate Change is affecting human’s lives in recent centuries. Daily human activities
generated large amount of greenhouse gases and people tend to calculate their greenhouse
gases emissions in terms of carbon footprint. In response to the important business topic
in the world stage - Sustainability and Carbon Neutral, this paper is aimed to explore the
possible development of adapting corporate carbon management strategies, concepts and
practices in developers’ and agency property management companies in Hong Kong.
By conducting 10 semi-structured in-depth interviews with existing practitioners, trade
representatives who had 5-35 years experiences in Hong Kong property management
industry and the head consultant of a professional carbon management consultancy firm,
this study investigated the latest circumstances (as at 2021 in Hong Kong), push factors,
opportunities and challenges and the support required for implementing proactive carbon
management strategies in developers’ and agency property management companies in
Hong Kong. At the end of this paper, it would be concluding the most updated property
management practitioners’ attitudes, views and concerns on conducting proactive
corporate carbon management strategies in their daily working environment and see
whether staff from developers’ companies are having different concerns comparing with
the staff from agency property management companies. With reference to literature
reviews and comments from the interviewees, possible recommendations would also be
proposed correspondingly.
