AbstractVBT cords are made of very strong Polymer fibers and should be able to withstand correction tension forces. However, incidents of cord breakage have been reported near the vertebral screws. In this study, we investigated the effect of screw malalignment contact stresses and their effect on cord durability using finite element method. Our analysis showed that the larger the malalignment the proportionally higher the contact stresses, thus, the shorter the lifespan of the cord.
