AbstractPurpose: This research has explored how COVID-19 affects the reading behavior and reading preference of Shenzhen parents and high school students. Methodology: The current study has adopted a qualitative approach, using NVivo12 software to conduct one-on-one semi-structured interviews. Thirteen parents or guardians in Shenzhen were recruited through a purposeful sampling method. Member checking is applied after the formal interview. The coding of transcripts is divided into four steps, and the same procedure has been rolling executed in 2-3 rounds. Ethical issues are fully considered. Findings: This study found the effectiveness and risks of high school students use of electronic resources and discovered changes in the reading behavior of high school students and their parents under the COVID-19 situation. Originality: First, there are few case studies specifically for boarding students. Second, this research can fill the gaps in related research under the context of Shenzhen China in the specific period of COVID-19. The future work: Researchers will continue to conduct comparative research in non-boarding high schools in other regions. At the same time, quantitative research methods will be used to extend the findings of this research to a wider range of people.
