AbstractPreclinical evidence suggests that stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) is immunomodulatory. Given the potential to augment local and systemic antitumor responses, there is significant interest in the combination of SBRT with various immunotherapies to improve clinical outcomes. Additional preclinical and clinical investigation will be needed to better understand the radiobiologic and immunologic mechanisms of this potential synergy and to define the most appropriate application of SBRT to optimize this complex yet promising partnership with immunotherapy.
