Abstract | With the rise of “Creative Economy” and the digitization of the economy, “Co-working
Space” had emerged for creative and innovative people and small entrepreneurs to
maximize their serendipity in order to come up with “the next big thing” in the upcoming future. However, compared with other academic regions, there was a few of literatures regarding the development and features of co-working spaces in Hong Kong.
In this connection, co-working space had been selected to become my research topic with the aid of filling this academic gap.
In my research, the major goal was to investigate whether the collaboration was the most important factor for different knowledgeable professionals at co-working spaces in Hong Kong. In this connection, my research had to identify objective 1 – different kinds of knowledgeable professionals at co-working spaces in Hong Kong, realize objective 2 - the tenants’ preference of selecting co-working spaces as their workplaces in Hong Kong and explore objective 3 - the effective ways to reinforce collaboration at co-working spaces in Hong Kong.
Furthermore, literature review not only provided a wide range of insights and solid background for my research paper’s investigation, but also developed new arguments, gave a brand new interpretation of aged material and combined new with old interpretations. On top of that, published information, such as research papers, surveys books, scholarly articles and government pamphlets, became the main source of materials, providing a wide range of insights and solid background in relation to the concept of co-working space and collaboration in my research.
After studied the literature reviews above, I had firmly grasped the comprehensive idea regarding the collaboration in co-working spaces across the world. In order to further understand and realize whether the mentioned phenomena of co-working spaces applicable in Hong Kong, a mixed-methods research approach was be taken in answering to the research question in my dissertation. In the quantitative research approach, all of the hard findings provided my research with lots of background information and reference in relation the collaboration at co-working spaces in Hong Kong. In the qualitative research approach, observation and in-depth interview gave further analysis and interpretation in my research.
Although my own research had provided many valuable insights regarding the situation of collaboration at co-working spaces both in Hong Kong as well as around the world. Nevertheless, there were a lots of possible limitations with potential impacts on the quality of the research findings and the ability in answer to the research questions and hypotheses in an organized and concise way.
In the conclusion, I would like to wrap up the all of my research findings, either quantitative or qualitative, in response to objective 1, 2 and 3 under my research questions. On top of that, I would also make some suggests and recommendations in terms of the development of collaboration at co-working spaces in Hong Kong.
