AbstractAs the Law Society has repeatedly asserted a right to unilaterally introduce a new qualifying examination to the solicitor branch of the legal profession, this article argues that Rule 7 of the Trainee Solicitors Rules does not give the Law Society any such right or power, and any unilateral attempt to introduce a new qualifying examination without amending Rule 7 and the approval of the Chief Justice would be ultra vires the Legal Practitioners Ordinance.
