AbstractThe second paper documents the history of Yangon’s urban vegetation as a colonial legacy, and recent appropriation of these urban spaces to accommodate the city’s explosive growth. It argues that challenging but provocative paradigms of nature in the city must be recognized and balanced against the political and public desires of modernization and the realities of health, sanitation, and settlement.
