AbstractCaries on the surfaces of exposed tooth root is common among the elders. Although there is good clinical evidence to support the effectiveness of a number of methods or agents to prevent coronal dental caries in school children, the number of clinical trials on root caries prevention is small. This presentation will cover a concise review of the characteristics of root surface caries, and the current clinical evidence for various preventive methods and agents. The use of management approaches combining both primary and secondary prevention of root caries will be discussed. Knowledge gaps and priority areas for research will also be identified
