Abstract | This chapter provides an overview of early childhood education (ECE) in Hong Kong. It begins by tracing the development of ECE from a historical and socio-cultural perspective and considers factors that influence early childhood policies and practices. We then present the current state of ECE and focus on the following: (1) provision and funding; (2) quality assurance and monitoring; (3) teacher preparation; (4) curricular models and approaches; and (5) assessment of the quality of programs. Finally, future directions of ECE in Hong Kong are discussed. © 2018 Taylor and Francis. |
