Abstract | Should we avoid making cross-cultural judgments and let each community rule on what is ethical? Or are there universal moral truths that speak to all of us? Daniel Bell takes a third position in this article. He develops his perspective through a dialogue between two fictitious characters. Sam Demo is an East Asia program officer for a fictitious U.S.-based nongovernmental organization named the National Endowment for Human Rights and Democracy (NEHRD). Joseph Lo is a Hong Kong businessman and human rights activist. We join the conversation in midstream. |
