Abstract | There is a growing need to understand the role of leadership in schools in order for leaders in the education industry to gain a deeper realization of their role as a mentor and guide to cultivate the new generation of good quality teachers.
A discussion on various depiction of education leadership from different angle will be laid out, as supported by available literature reviews such as journals and articles. Is leadership really essential for developing quality teachers or is it a mere tool to ensure that the school is running smoothly? The need, purpose and significance for this study will also be presented. Different literature reviews will be needed to identify the significance of this study. In Chapter 4, the author presented the “Lakewood Case Study”, which is the story of a school in Hong Kong. The story will clearly display the effect of mismanagement on teachers’ motivation and quality of instruction.
The participants in this study have helped greatly in making this research meaningful and they have generously shared their management practice to make this paper possible. The last chapter of this paper will present an analysis of their viewpoints, their leadership practice, their understanding, agreement and disagreement to the theories of leadership practice presented in the articles published by the Wallace Foundation.
This paper intend to open the eyes of practicing teachers, teacher who aim to hold leadership positions and current principals on the importance of leadership to cultivate and nurture teachers in order for the whole school to move forward towards a common goal. |
