Challenge, Response and Reflection: Practice of Long-term Care for the Oldest-old in China

Abstract

The long-term care of the oldest-old is an important issue in the area of public service for the elderly. There is little research on the practice of long-term care of the elderly in China and it is necessary for researchers and officers to pay more attention to this issue. Through the relevant literature review, this paper reveals three major challenges facing by long-term care of the elderly.First, the evaluation index system of frail elderly and the practice of long-term care have not yet been fit. Second, the long-term care system has not been set up yet. Third, the boundary between longterm care and medical service is not yet clear. This study attempts to analyze the elderly long-term care model in China from the perspective of state and market, and to response three major challenges during the practice of long-term care.
