AbstractRapid automatized naming (RAN) is a robust predictor of reading fluency in different languages including Chinese. Is it related more to processing speed, phonological awareness, or orthographic knowledge? Structural equation modeling of our data of Hong Kong Chinese suggests that general processing speed may underlie the relationship between RAN and reading.
