AbstractObjectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the patient factors affecting their preference of dental implant therapy. Methods: One hundred and seven patients (39 male and 68 female, mean age = 47) who attended the Reception Clinic of a university dental hospital were recruited. They were introduced to the general concepts of dental implant therapy, removable dentures and fixed prostheses. They were then asked to select one treatment modality if they had a missing tooth hypothetically. Demographic data regarding age, gender, income level, status of missing teeth and perceived treatment need were collected. Chi-square and t-test were used to analyse the data. Results: About one-fifth of the study population preferred dental implants for missing tooth replacement in a hypothetical scenario. People who preferred implants were significantly younger (p=0.004). Conclusions: Age is an important patient factor for dental implant therapy.
