Abstract | Stakeholders in construction projects are concerned with procuring complex performance packages which yield value. Identifying stakeholders’ relative importance, value criteria and weightings is extremely difficult and so, usually, is simplified. Commonly, the focus is the commissioning client (owner) to identify and fix their criteria and parameters, within the feasible region dictated by constraints at an early stage. Concerns over project complexities, levels of performance achieved, and the claims of other stakeholders all exert pressures for changes. Performance requirements are recognised as emergent and need to be integrated across all stakeholders. The impediments which often arise may be addressed through sensemaking. Thus, this paper investigates the application of co-creation and sensemaking, via a critical review of theory and literature, and case studies, as a means through which the holistic value of construction projects may be enhanced. |
