AbstractINTRODUCTION: Growth differentiation factor (GDF)-15, also known as macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1, is a one of the members of transforming growth factor (TGF)-b. In normal condition, GDF-15 is only weakly expressed in many tissues but it is strongly upregulated in acute injury, tissue hypoxia, inflammation and oxidative stress.
