AbstractThis paper presents an extension of a new approach to select the truncation number for translation operators in a 3D multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Although error is harder to control in 3D than in 2D problems, this recently developed new approach provides better error control in 3D problems over the excess bandwidth formula.
